Mel’s Ice Cream has proudly served neighborhoods, schools, beaches, parks, and special events across Massachusetts for more than 66 years. Founded by Melvin Gould with a single Mr. Softee truck, we have grown into a third-generation family business operating 11 ice cream trucks and serving over 140 frozen treats, novelty ice creams, slush, soda, candy, and chips throughout the South Shore.

A Massachusetts Tradition, Three Generations Strong

The Mel’s Ice Cream story began in 1960 when Melvin Gould purchased his very first Mr. Softee ice cream truck. At the time, Melvin was working as a correctional officer while also raising thousands of chickens and delivering fresh eggs across Massachusetts. During his daily routes, he noticed children playing in neighborhoods and realized there was a better way to bring smiles to local families. That simple idea became the beginning of Mel’s Ice Cream.

Today, owner Randy Gould proudly continues the family tradition after spending more than 38 years in the business. What started with one truck has grown into a fleet of 11 trucks serving neighborhoods, schools, beaches, birthday parties, corporate events, weddings, festivals, and community celebrations throughout Massachusetts.
